Its weird nowadays how people are reacting to disaster like earthquake nowadays:

When someone saw a disaster / heard about it happening , will they…?

1. Think that global warming is causing all this

2. Start to save energy for a greener environment

3. Go to an make a donation for the victims if needed.

But I think for most people now, they will..

.

.

4. Tweet about it, then check if they are the first one that do so.

.

.

Duh!

I think it is time for me the write about the event I will be organizing on the 19th October, Singapore - The Actionscript Conference.

I have been toying with the idea of organizing a full day actionscript event ever since 2007, when MAX stop organizing in Singapore from 2006. Therefore last year, I managed to invited Aral Balkan to Singapore for a 1 day event on Actionscript. This year, I hope that we can organize a bigger, and better event. The Singapore Web industry deserve more Web events than it should have currently, and while there are many events in Singapore to boost entrepreneurship, the balance is broken when there are so many entrepreneur yet only so little talented developers. Many are seeking for Flex developers with experience with no avail. Startups are finding it hard to find talented developers which they need to kick start their great ideas. And there is no place in Singapore that trains Flex, when it should not be the case when I receive many emails a month on recommendation on schools to learn Actionscript / Flex. With the Singapore Flex Usergroup, we therefore want to create a Conference in which we can bring the developers in the region together, to educate , learn and evolve together in this event.

The Actionscript Conference is thus born, with the help of a dedicated Flex/Flash/Actionscript guru in Singapore:

Hu Shunjie (me), Conference Manager (Flex developer, Seesmic)
Arul Prasad, Speakers Relation Manager (Lead Engineer Flex, Fusion Garage)
Kenneth Teo, Sponsorship Manager (Flex developer, Loftec Pte Ltd)
Alex Goh , Logistic Manager (Flex developer)
Lionel Low, Co-Design Manager (nteractive Developer, TBWA\TEQUILA)
Thye Yeow Bok, Co-Logistic Manager (Lead Engineer Flex, Fusion Garage)
Alvin Zhang, Design Manager (Flash Developer, Imagine Interactive)

The Actionscript Conference, to be held on the 19th October 2008, at the Singapore National Library, aim to bring awareness to Flex, Actionscript, the possibilities of the Flash Platform to the audience here. That will includes Flash Mobile, Rich Internet Applications, Enterprise Flex, Programming Actionscript, Advance topics on 3d Flash, and Tools / IDE for Flash / Flex. On the other hand, we want to allow startup that uses Flash for their primary UI / Applications to showcase  their application during the event.

I hope that everyone can see this event as an event for them, and I hope you (yes you!) can help me shape this event by giving me your valuable feedback, support, spreading the word. Any help is deeply appreciated!

Drop me a comment or email me at all@tac.sg. Any feedback is appreciate. Lets make things happen !

Today Creative Commons Singapore announces the completion of the locally ported Creative Commons licensing suite. In close collaboration with Centre for Asia Pacific Technology Law & Policy (CAPTEL), the Creative Commons team in Singapore, led by Associate Professor Samtani Anil and Assistant Professor Giorgos Cheliotis, adapted the licenses both linguistically and legally to Singaporean national law. The Creative Commons licenses, now ported to 47 jurisdictions, enable authors, artists, scientists, and educators the choice of a flexible range of protections and freedoms in efforts to promote a voluntary “some rights reserved” approach to copyright.

I promised Flowgram that I will showcase it at the Singapore Flex Usergroup and in return, beta invites for the Usergroup members. Since then (a month ago), I have gotten the invites but as I cannot find a suitable video editor for FLV (the video is streamed live to UStream) , and the segment of introduction is at the 60th min, I cannot put it up

Thanks to RichFLV, I can do it now. Probably will be using it on my day-to-day job now.
